Have you noticed that it's still light outside when you're going to bed at night? Summer Solstice is upon us and this is such a wonderful time of the year. This Thursday, June 21st marks the Summer Solstice when the sun reaches it's highest altitude and the daylight hours are the longest here in the northern hemisphere. Summer is represented by coyote spirit and the direction of the south, the noon day sun, the fullness of glory, the passion, the heat of the moment, the foolishness, the frivolity, the glory of summer, everything is in full bloom...let's welcome summer and all that it brings!
Branching Out has lots to celebrate this Summer Solstice so I'd like to share a few of those items with you. Please join me in welcoming all that is new this season.
First and foremost, I would like to announce that the Branching Out tree has grown another limb! I would like to welcome Lisa Morrison to the team! Lisa will be a huge asset to Branching Out and I could tell you all kinds of wonderful things about Lisa but let's get her story right from the source...here is Lisa's story...
In the fall of 1999, I got a phone call that would change the course of my life...My mother had been diagnosed with breast cancer. Needless to say, I was devastated and it was a big wake-up call. This news led to me making some drastic changes in my life and beginning my journey of learning how to treat myself well - physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. I began to study whole foods nutrition, yoga, meditation, compassionate communication skills, and learning about natural healthcare options. In essence, I took ownership over my own health and well-being. Throughout the years, I have experimented with several different ways of eating, including vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and paleo diets. Now I have settled on a combination that works for my individual needs, and I believe each person needs to find what works best for them. In 2003, I developed a heightened sensitivity to the multitude of toxic chemicals that have been introduced to our modern day lives that overload our immune systems and allow disease to flourish. These health-depleting chemicals are not only found as environmental emissions from cars and industrial manufacturing, but they are also being added to our food, body care products and home cleaning products. Unfortunately, we have no immediate control over environmental emissions. However, what I did realize is that I have direct control over what I put in my body, on my body, and what I use to clean my home. So I decided to reduce my toxic load by eating more organic and pesticide-free whole foods, and using non-toxic products for body care and home cleaning. For me, eating right, exercising, getting quality rest, managing stress and reducing toxic load is the lifestyle I strive for because I want to feel my best while I'm living life. It's now been nearly 20 years since I got that phone call, and I'm happy to say that my mom is still alive and thriving! Woohoo!!! I am truly grateful to have this opportunity with Branching Out, and I'm excited to share my knowledge and experience of transitioning to and living a natural lifestyle with the community. I can't wait to meet you! Here's to treating yourself well, Lisa.
This story gives you a little insight into what brought Lisa to Branching Out so come on in and chat with her, I've told her how wonderful you all so let her see for herself! :-)
Branching Out Builds Community
Starting this summer, we will be joining forces with various people in the community who have wisdom to share! We are putting together a series of evening workshops with people who have knowledge in the areas of healthy lifestyle, sustainability, natural parenting, and other topics of interest.
The first presenter in the series is Leona Barnes of Leona's Place of Wellness. Her workshops are entitled “The 7 Physical Causes of Ill Health” and “The 7 Spiritual Causes of Ill Health”. These workshops are based on Hanna Kroeger's work. More information can be found here: http://www.peacefulmeadow.com/hanna-kroeger/. The workshops will take place on July 10 and 24 from 6:30 to 8:00pm at Branching Out. The cost for the workshops is $15 per class. Space is limited so contact the store to register. Class fee is paid at time of registration.
Stay tuned for more interesting topics coming soon!
The Night Market – Carroll's Corner Community Center
As many of you know this Thursday also marks the first weekly Night Market in Carroll's Corner. The market runs from 4:30 to 8:30 every Thursday from June 21 until December 13. Join myself and all of the other great local vendors at the market each week. I will be offering organic coffee and loose leaf tea, healthy snacks and a selection of products from the store each week.
Since you'll find me at the Night Market, the store will no longer be open on Thursday evenings. Which brings me to my next point...
After talking to many of you, I've decided that remaining open until 5:30 on week nights would help lots of you who would like to stop in on your way home from work. So starting June 21, Branching Out will be open until 5:30 every week night. We have also decided to open on Sundays from 1pm to 5pm to make shopping at Branching Out more accessible on the weekends. We will remain closed on Mondays however this will be catch up day for me so although I will not keep regular hours on Mondays, you will often find me at the store. Feel free to drop in if I'm here or message me to see if I'll be in that day. The official hours starting June 21 will be as follows:
Monday: by appointment
Tuesday: 10:00 – 5:30
Wednesday: 10:00 – 5:30
Thursday: 10:00 – 5:30 & 4:30 – 8:30 at The Night Market in Carroll's Corner
Friday: 10:00 – 5:30
Saturday: 10:00 – 5:00
Sunday: 1:00 – 5:00
If you can't make it into the store during regular hours but plan to be at The Night Market, feel free to contact me with any items you'd like me to bring to the market for you.
Starting Friday, June 22 we will have a selection of fresh produce from Snowy River Farms available at Branching Out "Farmer's Market style" on FRIDAYS ONLY. So, if you'd like to top up what you received in your CSA veggie box, or you want to stock your cooler before heading to the cottage for the weekend, drop by Branching Out on Fridays to see what mother nature (and Amy) has provided us each week. Selection will vary from week to week as the growing season evolves. We will also announce each week's selection on our facebook page every Friday morning. Eat Local!
We now have cultured coconut kefir available at Branching Out and we will soon have fermented veggies available as well. Here's to gut health!
Stainless steel straws are back in stock!
Now that I have some help at the store, stay tuned for more availability of Village Herbal Care products including Enjoy Nature spray, all natural deodorant and other all natural personal care and cleaning products.
If you've gotten this far, thanks for sticking around...drop by for some tea, coffee and healthy snacks. Lisa and I look forward to connecting with you in our little community.
Early dawns, long days, late sunsets...let's get out and celebrate the sun!
Take the time to get out alone this weekend and enjoy an early sunrise or a late sunset, reflect on all the things you have to look forward to this summer, accept the things in your life you may not be able to change and move on, you'll be happy you took this time for you. Happy Summer Solstice!
Love and Light,
